On the Island, the best way of getting black pearls is by killing Tusos, Alpha Tusos and Alpha Mosas in the deep sea. On my last Island server, I used a Basilo as a mount, followed by 6-7 Megalodons to quickly kill them. Tame a Basilosaurus (even better with a bred and imprinted one), as they are immune to the grab and to Cnidaria. If you want mods, get the gaia fish farm, gets a metric ton of black pearls, white pearls, oil, angler gel. Go kill Tusoteuthis, get about 30 from each kill. Just to throw in a different method, using an otter also works.
