[1] [2] He was born on 21 May 1471 and died on 6 April 1528 in Nuremberg, Germany and is best known as a maker of old master prints. His prints were often in a series, so that there is a group of different prints about a subject.Albrecht Dürer’s engraving of Adam and Eve was inspired by "Battle of the Nudes," an engraving made fifteen years earlier by the Italian Renaissance artist Antonio Pollaiuolo. Like Pollaiuolo, Dürer engraved his name in Latin on a cartello, or placard, and based his figures on classical prototypes.

Albrecht Dürer is widely considered to be one of the greatest artists of the Northern Renaissance. In his engraving Melencolia I (1514), an enigmatic scene unfolds, in which a brooding angel sits near geometrically hewn stones, a demon flies overheard, and a sleeping hound wedges itself between tools and scientific instruments.

Albrecht Dürer was the second of 18 children of the goldsmith Albrecht Dürer the Elder and of Barbara Holper. Two of his younger brothers also gained some recognition: Hans as an artist and Andreas as a goldsmith.
